| MS May Support Blu-ray.... I was reading this article saying that MS will support Blu-Ray in the near future if it win's over HD DVD. Quote: If Blu-ray Wins Microsoft Will Support It Microsoft will continue to be a strong supporter of the new HD DVD format, but if the format does indeed lose to Blu-ray (Blu-ray has been outselling it lately), it would be "highly likely" that the company would offer a Blu-ray solution, U.K. Xbox head Neil Thompson said.
Don't expect Microsoft to launch an add-on Blu-ray movie player for its Xbox 360 anytime soon. The company stands firmly behind HD DVD as its high definition movie format of choice and plans to keep the format separate from Xbox 360's standard DVD-9 game disc format. That said, if Sony's Blu-ray does end up winning the next-generation format war, Microsoft would be willing to finally support Blu-ray, the company said.
Speaking to the BBC News, U.K. Xbox head Neil Thompson commented, "Whatever format wins it is highly likely we will offer a solution."
With the PlayStation 3 about to launch tomorrow in Europe, however, Thompson remains extremely confident in Microsoft's position in the console war. "The Xbox 360 offers a better gaming experience than PS3 for £150 less. The only debate is if you want to watch Blu-ray movies and pay the extra money for that feature. We prefer to offer the consumer choice."
And while Sony has had a slow start out of the gate, hampered partly by the $600 price tag and a fair share of negativity lately, some analysts are banking on the PlayStation brand and the eventual flow of "AAA" titles to give Sony the edge in the long run.
"The real issue for Sony is whether they can get back the momentum they had with PS2. The only thing that is going to drive that is the number of titles available," remarked Peter O'Donovan, principal analyst at Gartner.
He added, "We expect PS3 to outsell Wii and 360 in a couple of year's time." by James Brightman | read the full thing at http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=15568
