The other night Gyza and Phabio were asking if I knew any good bands or albums they should check out so I thought I would come up with a list (that I will gradually add to each week) of music that some may have not heard of or just bands that some people may know of but never bothered to give a listen to.If there is one thing I have it's a good bit of musical knowledge but only in certain genres so don't expect to see too much current Rap,R and B,Pop or any Country music here.

I'll start off with a list of a few albums I used to listen to when I was a little younger that some of you may not have heard before. Then I'll try and review some albums here and there.

Feel free to contribute to this thread with your own personal reviews on obscure albums that you would like to share with everyone. Please don't post about current commercially successful albums that everyone here may know about though.

So Here is he list of some of my all time favorite albums that if you haven't heard you should at least check out.(these are in no particular order)
Sidenote:MOST OF THIS IS OLDER MUSIC

1.Artist:At The Drive-In
Album:Relationship of Command

Texas band that later went on to form Mars Volta and Sparda. This band has a very unique sound that would be hard to compare to.This album featured the commercially successful single "One Armed Scissor".ATDI has some very obscure lyrics but features some great Guitar work.If you have not heard this entire album you should check it out because the whole thing is great imo.
Other notable albums:In Casino/Out

2.Artist:The Toadies
Album:Rubberneck

I'm sure everyone here has heard their single "Possum Kingdom" or even played it on GH2.However as far as there guitar skills go Possum Kingdom doesn't come close to what they are capapble of.This album is one of my personal favorites of all time.It has an old school Seattle grunge sound to it with some obvious influences from Sonic Youth and The Pixies.I highly recommend this album to everyone and can honestly say it is one of the few albums I can listen to in it's entirety.Be sure to check out the Songs ""Backslider","Away" and "Tyler".
3.Artist:Hole
Album:Live through this

Everyone here knows that Courtney Love is a skank but did you know she actually had an incredible debut album. If you haven't heard this album you are missing out.If you can put aside the fact you hate Courtney Love and just listen you can definitely tell she may have had some help from her late husband writing the album. The influences are definitely there.Another album that I could listen to all the way through.Too bad it's the only album of hers worth listening too.Maybe if her husband was still alive she could have made more albums as good as this one.
4.Artist:God Lives Underwater
Album:Life in the so called space age

This band was slightly ahead of it's time. They were a techno rock band that never had much commercial success with the exception of their single "No More Love".Their first album "Empty" was also good but their sophomore release was a little more diverse and better produced. This album will not be for everyone but if you enjoy Industrial Techno with a rock twist than you should definitely at least listen to it to see if it is to your liking.Be sure to check out the songs "Rearrange","From your mouth" and "Alone Again".
5.Artist:Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Album:Creepin on a come up

Most peope here have at least heard of Bone if not heard some of their music, however if you have not heard their album Creepin on a come up then find it and listen. They have a unique brand of singing and rapping that is very melodic and well harmonized.I am not the biggest rap fan but I recognize talented artists when I hear them.I used to listen to a lot of BTNH when I was younger and could still listen today. This band kind of proves to me that the current rap scene has lost a lot off it's originality and sound that made it so popular when I was younger. From this album be sure to listen to the tracks ""No Surrender","Down Foe my thang" and "For the love of money".
Other notable albums:East 1999 Eternal songs of note:"Crept and we came" and the welfare tribute song":First of the Month"

I'll add more soon possibly by the end of the week.Just check these out for now.Trust me you won't be disappointed.
Updated 5/5/07
Ok so here are some more of my picks.I am going to add each week with a different genre of music. This week I will show you guys my favorite artists in the Techno/Rock genre. This music will not be for everyone but those who enjoy this music if you don't already know these bands or have heard their albums I suggest checking them out.Again PM me if you want the album and I'll upload it and send a link to you.
1.VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theater)
Album:Self Titled "VAST"

This album is a mix of Techno,Metal,Goth and Chant.I know that sounds strange but it works and it works well. This is a one man band so to me that shows how much talent this guy really has.He uses samples of tribal ritual songs, monk chants behind his metal guitar and techno beats. This album is one I always find myself going back to and listening no matter how long ago it was made. This album is similar In the style of Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. Some of you may have even heard one single of this album called "Touched".I believe this song has been in some movie trailers and may have been used as an intro song for a television show.I think it was the opening song on the show "Angel" (not sure because I never watched the show).
2.Filter
Album: Short Bus

Featuring the very successful single "Hey man, nice shot" that was rumored to have been wrote about Kurt Cobain,Filter features sounds not unlike Nine Inch Nails.Mainly because the lead singer Richard Patrick was formerly NIN's guitar player. This was my favorite album by the band and had some really kickass songs on it including "Dose","Take Another" and "Consider This".If you like Nine Inch Nails earlier music then you will love this album.
3.Nine Inch Nails
Album:Broken

Well you didn't think I would leave out the band that pretty much set the standards for the genre did you? This album was by far their heaviest and most Hardcore. The single "Wish" is one of my favorite songs by NIN ever. With some of the most intense guitar riffs and chords this album was very different than anything else they or I should say Trent Reznor has ever created. My favorite songs on the album besides "Wish" are "Last" ,"Gave Up" and "Suck".If you have never heard this album this one is a MUST HAVE!Just be sure not to be thrown off when you have to skip through tracks #5 through #97 to hear all the songs.Wierd I know but that's NIN for ya.

I realize most everyone hear knows who Filter and NIN are but I know some younger people may have not heard these earlier albums by them.Other bands you should check out that I am less familiar with but I know are in the same genre and have heard some of their music and can say it's pretty good are.

1.Gravity Kills
2.Placebo
3.Stabbing Westward

UPDATED 7/1/07

Ok I know it's been a while since I updated this but I don't think anyone really cares anyways lol.So here are some bands most of us know and already love but those of you who have never listened to these bands should atleast give them a try.

Ok so first on the list is one of my favorite bands.
Artist:Muse
Album:Showbiz

This album was the one that made me truly love this bands music. The songs Sunburn,Muscle Museum and Showbiz are great tracks but the entire disc is amazing to me.This album is a little more difficult to find but if you happen to find it somewhere and you enjoy Muse definitely snatch it up!Btw if anyone can't find this album and wants it let me know

Artist:Radiohead
Album:OK Computer

A truly phenomenal album all the way through.Radiohead is one of the most influential bands of our generation and there inspiration can be heard in many different bands including and especially Muse. This was the album where they began experimenting a tad with some electronic elements but still maintained there core sound. This was my personal favorite album of theirs and included my favorite song Paranoid Android.
Artist:Interpol
Album:Turn on the bright lights

Another personal favorite of mine.I first heard this band while watching a skate video called Yeah Right. Before they were getting radio play they alreay had a good following in the skate scene.I bought this album and have been a huge fan ever since. They have a very European style for being a band from New York, but I say that in a good way. They have other albums as well that should be mentioned.Antics and their latest Our Love to Admire which will be released on July 10th (my birthday ).A great band that I highly recommend to everyone.

Again if anyone wants to hear these artists let me know.
