I think that majority of the reason for MS including these features is that people asked for them. People wanted HD-DVD built in, people wanted Wi-Fi built in, and people wanted a black console. You know Sony created the Sixaxis for the sole reason of competing with the Wii remote? Not like it matters anyway, Sixaxis is a complete failure, it's a terrible gaming experience so people always end up choosing to play with the analog sticks.
