Hitzel's got it more or less down. The clans that stay together longest and perform the best, are the ones that originated from 2 or 3 friends and expanded from there. So basically...
1. Find friends that can thoroughly pwn nubs
2. Pwn nubs aongside them
3. Say, "Hey! We pwn nubs! Let's make a clan!"
4. Form said clan
5. Find a name under which you may further pwn nubs as a group
6. Recruit others who have the ability to pwn nubs
7. Join a league and pwn teams of nubs
8. Gain fame and glory from pwning nubs
9. Continue to pwn nubs as a clan
