This is just my preference and it helped me a long way, especially when I was trying to 5* it.
Strum the first note of each down segment, so if you miss one hopefully you can get right back on. Its just a steady downstrum.
Make sure you get both star powers before it, basically they are essential if your just trying to pass the song.
Make it as far as you can in it before using your star power.
Other than that, on flood, mostly on the trills just hold the bottom button down for that trill and strum pretty fast.
