yeah, actually this happened to me. The checkered pattern across your tv means that your xbox is actually close to failing. Mine failed about a week after I had my first experience with the checkered freezing. Now, my Xbox is out of warranty, and they want me to pay $139 to get my Xbox fixed. Has anybody gotten around thi fee to get their Xbox fixed b/c that would be greatly appreciated, b/c I am not gonna pay to get mine fixed.
