Thinking of becoming a casual gamer...

Well christmas break has come to an end and I spent a lot of time on XBL. I played a lot of Gears of War and im basically one of the best in the world at it now. Me and a few friends made a clan and got into the top 10 on gamebattles last night. Our first loss was today and we were all really mad. Now im thinking. Is it worth it to spend so much time playing video games? I mean, what do I get for doing this. I went to 3 LAN parties and 1 tournament over the break and won every single match I played. I get the joy of winning. But seriosly I dont even have fun with the game any more. The whole time we are going nuts just to get a win. If we loose we get so upset over something thats really dumb. I get to be in the "pro" community but every one whos remotely good is an asshole. If they win they trash talk for the rest of the day. If you frag tag they think ur bad. Thats not what games are meant for. I play pocket bike racer for 1 hour and people on my friends list say "why arent u on practicing ur gears skills". RoFL. So ya, since school is comming up im automatically not gonna be able to keep up with the 20-25 year old people who dont go to work or school and just play the game all day. Im thinking of just not playing games seriosly and joining a casual gamer clan just to have fun in games and not be serios all the time. MLG as good as it would be to win its just 5000 bux u cant have that as ur job (no joke people on my friends list want to be pro gamers as their career and they are graduated from high school). Its gonna take me a while though before Im truly not serios about games but im gonna work on it. Just thought id tell the community that. BTW this is all subject to change so dont be all like "u said blah blah" lol.

Join a clan that is casual but still wants to go to tournaments and such, like a clan with lots of decent plays, and a few extremely ownage players, can't go wrong with that.

K, i'll tell u this now, ur gonna get told sideways for saying ur the one of the best in the world.

anyways, Casual gaming is a good idea, there is seriously no way someone can support a family on that income.

Personally, when i look back at my self now, thinking of going pro, and coming close to those skills on halo 2 and pdz, i find it pathetic, You get so tensed up over something that is meant as ENTERTAINMENT! Not over something that can help you in reality.

I also can’t stand most of the clan community, everyone is always so hard up about being the best it gets old fast. If you want to get out of it I would first suggest don’t go to the game battles forums at all. The only thing you will find there is egotistical jerks who thinks both themselves and their clanmates are the best, and who will constantly seek recognition from others about how good they are.

If you really want to get out of the whole pro mentality don’t say things like you and your team are the best in the world, don’t even think like that. Talking about how awesome (even thinking) you find yourself will just lead you back to the dark side. And if people start trash talking to you about your skill or whatever don’t get worked up or out of shape over it. Remember you want to play for personal satisfaction and not for other people.

Also 95% of the so called “pro and clan” community are assholes who think they are the shit at games… be the other 5%.

That’s my personal opinion and take it for what it’s worth.

EDIT: I just want to say... the gamebattles community is the second worst community I've seen. Second only to gamefaqs.

I really agree with you. I dont think I ever have really been a hardcore, gaming above life, person but I have gotten into it sometimes. I find that I have a lot more fun just playing for the hell of it.

Best in the world? WOW... Until you play with the best in the world, and win big tournys, you're not the best. No one is the best in the world. So just go be a casual gamer, and lose the cocky mentality...
