Default Computer question

If my computer is running slow, and I've cleaned my computer of virus'/malware already, what would need to be upgraded on the inside to get it moving fast again? lately its been pooping out on me and im not ready to get a new computer yet

What exactly is slow? Programs? If that's the case then buy more ram, ram comes pretty cheap now a days but I'd say about 1 gb of ram is efficient.
If you want to check out the amount of ram you have now; Find "My Computer" (usually in start menu) right click it> go to properties and it should be towards the bottom, at about the third line down.

how old is your computer? if its more then 5-6 years old get a new one. it wouldnt even be worth upgrading. but if its like 2 oe 3 years old get a gig or 512 of ram. if your running 256 ram thats why its running slow.

-Defragmentate
-disk clean-up
-go into the "add or remove programs" and erase stuff you dont need
-click start > run and run %temp% and delete everything in there
-go to C:Windows/Prefatch, delete everything in there
-Start > run and type in msconfig, go to startup, and uncheck things that arnt necessary to run at start-up (examples: aim, msn, limewire)

If all else fails, you should just reformat.

Im almost positive its about 2 and a half years old, so thats why I don't want to get a new computer yet. And i know you said 1 gig of ram is efficient, but im on 768 mbs and thats pretty close and its still actin a fool. I guess ill go through and try what whitewater said.

^^Sometimes when you ahve 2 different RAM cards of different MB's, it can cause it to do alot worse then it should.

I really want to bring back Whitewater, but fucking SadistiK is too long to bring it back.
