|  Skateboard Riding Tips
so i got my hands on a skateboard...some piece of shit wal-mart board, but its a start it rides, lol
anyone have basic tips on riding the board and balancing on it??? i've busted my ass so many times already. lol
i've watched so many videos on how to ollie and kickflip and shuvit and varial, but i need to learn how to fuckin balance and ride this shit first!!!! lol
tips would be greatly appreciated, and if i can i'll try and post some vids of me bustin my ass. lol

first you have to findout what you are goofy, regular, or mongo (those are the three right?) anyways the best i could ever do was ride my board i could never ollie :[
Anyways goofy is when your right foot is you dominant foot the one you lead with (that's what they told me anyways), regular is when you lead with your left foot, and mongo is when your dominant foot is in the back and your push off foot is in the front. Pro skateboarders on the forum tell me if i'm wrong...i probably am havent riden one of those things in a while.

Meh, Chuck can help you out better than I can. but..:
When you ride, you need to decide which foot will be your lead foot. If your right foot is the lead, then your stance is "goofy". If your left foot is the lead foot, then you are "regular". You always want to kick with your back foot. About keeping your balance, just try to concentrate all of your weight in the middle. Putting too much pressure in the front/back of the board will make you bust your ass.  Just try to learn how to ride on flatground, and maybe on an inclined surface before you try any basic tricks.
(Wow, I used like really big words in my post... )
Edit: About mongo. Mongo is when you kick with your front foot instead of your back foot. If you get into this habit, you might want to lead with your other foot. Like if you ride goofy, but you kick mongo (kick with your right foot) then you might want to try riding regular, where you normally kick with your right foot.

well your goofy footed if your right foot is forward. as am i. its like the minority of what people are but it doesnt matter. basically keep pushing around town, get used to the feel of the board, how you like your trucks(loose or tight) you might wana have them tighter for street skating and just basic balance. after a week or so you should feel pretty comfortable. then you can start learning ollies and such. i played GOW with you, or maybe your brother in law? anyway you can talk to me on live if youd like. im sure chuck can help ya more then me tho.

Yeh, Center your weight over the middle of the board, Equal pressure on both feet, that way you won't go into some horrible manual thing.
Mongo = Push with front foot, Reg = push with back foot (Like me).
But yeh, don't be scared, falling at this level of skateboarding won't hurt at all :], Then you can learn all the stuff..
Ps. Anyone got any tips about landing 360 flips :]

For starters keep your feet over both set of Trucks.I suggest pushing off with your rear foot which is much easier to steer the board that way.Dude honestly you live so close to me man lol!If I still had my board I would take you to some easy to skate spots that are good for learning and show you the ropes.Pm me and I'll give you my number and maybe we can hook up.I skated for a VERY long time and I consider myself to be decent at it. | |
