OK, what do you guys think about this?...3D Killed Mario. That is exactly what I have decided. Think back to the NES and SNES days when Mario was hot on the Market. It was the most badass game ever and had every kid completely obsessed. You may say that since it was so long ago that, that it was *HITECH* at the time, but I don't think so. I think that the reason people loved it so much was that it was an arcade style game filled with indepth secrets but more importantely it took skill and talent to master the toughest levels and no matter what you think, it was harder to find all 96 levels on Super Mario World then to completely beat the Mario on the Nintendo 64. I mean actually think back to playing both of those and which kept you coming back and back even years later? When Nintendo decided to make the move with Mario to the 3D era, they sacrificed the unique arcade style of jumping on ledges and the sidescrolling mystique of it. It may have appealed more to the littler kids at the time, but I think that it ruined the next generation Mario game for the video gaming community as a whole. And as a result of killing Mario they also killed Nintendo and that is why I believe they are so unsuccessful compared to Microsoft and Playstation. Make a new Generation Mario game, IN 2D!!!!!!!, and save the Mario franchise before it is to late.

umm i dont really agree well i was one of those little kids when mario 64 came out i liked the 2d mario but i think mario 64 was awesome but i dont think 3d killd mario there just coming out with stupid mario games like coming out with maio partyes over and over and over again also like mario baseball or w.e? If they came out with another mario game like mario 64 with an actual storyline and everything then i think it will do better

Yeah, I agree. That might be it...I still think the whole side scroller thing kicked ass. They are coming out with some pretty gay mario games..."Mario Sunshine"?!

How about throwing this out there: 3D killed Nintendo. I feel every game ever since the N64 has been terrible, watered down versions of games which were created for 2D but were ported over to 3D. The 2D games were fun, sure, but once they were turned to 3D those platformers (which was what every major Nintendo brand has been) lost their touch and are now shitty games which are accepted by children simply because of the figures they represent.

I somewhat agree with Assassln. Sure the 2D adventures with Mario and Link were badass, but people need to stop thinking games form the past are the best out there. 3D didn't kill Mario, the storylines did (I mean, after Mario beating the shit out of Bowser atleast 20 times, what else does he have to do)?
