But many would not even tell the gov't they are growing it, just so they won't pay taxes. The drug is way too popular to try and legalize it now, too many people have their own plants and couldn't care less if it was legal, they'll smoke it either way without the gov't knowing it. |

| Whats happening with drugs now would happen with cigarettes as well if cig's were outlawed. I see all these people talking about legalizing weed but I think its a good thing that weed is illegal. One of the main reasons is because, for some reason everyone who smokes weed, gets bored of it, and then moves on to stronger drugs with significantly higher risks. I also have noticed that drugs have been getting spread more often throughout every age class now. Adults smoking cigarettes and doing risky drugs are bad enough but when you get a 12-17 year old doing stuff like that, it will be very hard to get them off of it because they have basically went through puberty with it and it seems normal to them. This also puts a bad reputation on the parent's also(considering that the effects of this stuff have been obvious for a very long time now). Either way you look at it, smoking cigarettes and doing drugs is a lose/lose situation for the consumer. For the producer, its a totally different story. Everyone has the excuse of "It makes me feel good" but it brings me back to my point I made two days ago in a post, "If you didn't need it then, what makes you think that you need it now?"
I'm surprised that a spin-off thread of alcohol hasn't emerged from this yet.

If it was legal a lot of people would switch to buying it in stores and crap. Less dangerous and you know what you would be getting instead of taking a chance with someone in a back alley.
If the gov't banned cigs tomorrow there would be mass chaos and a hell of a lot of backlash. It would not be pretty and the current gov't would get a lot of hate. I would think that during the next election a candidate would say he "would consider the idea of legalizing cigarettes" and get a lot of extra votes.
The only way I could see it working is if the government says they will outlaw it in 10 years or something, and offer free help and patches for those who need it. Then people would have enough time to quit and have the tools necessary to do so. Would cost a heck of a lot of money though...

| I agree with Woozy with the point about teens getting into drugs/alcohol while they are growing and maturing, they start to develop stronger needs and likeness for it, I'm kind of luck I never started smoking weed or drinking until I was 16/17 (well started more occasionally). I see lots of kids around that aren't even in high school yet and they're all about the booze.

| If we killed every cigarette smoker, pothead, and any other drug user, then the law would work.
But that's like 50%+ of America.
Most people don't have the willpower or self-dignity to quit when it counts. |

A. You have your own stash
or
B. Because you're most likely already loyal to your dealer.
Chances are if you do pot, you already have connections and places to get it. |

Chances are if you do pot, you already have connections and places to get it. | I know, but because there is such a wide varety of people who smoke pot now I would think that a lot of people would prefer to buy it from a safer more known place.
