| Thoughts On 1st MLG Tourney My Thoughts On My First MLG Online Tourney Experience
Let me first say that this tourney has been the most fun I've had on Gears of War thus far. The intensity and competition was awesome - ranked and player matches cannot compare.
We smoked our competition last night with a 3-0 performance but I don't think it will be enough to advance us in the MLG tourney.
Here is Clan Pull the Trigger's Open Round tourney results:
Scheduled Game 1 --- 2 wins, 1 loss
Scheduled Game 2 --- 2 wins, 1 loss
Scheduled Game 3 --- 0 wins, 3 losses
Scheduled Game 4 --- 3 wins, 0 losses
Overall we did very well (winning the majority of our matches in 3 nights out of 4 ending up with a 7-5 record) but that one night where our team literally self-destructed going 0-3 was the nail in our coffin as it turns out. Only 2 of 5 teams advance out of our group. By dropping those three matches we will allow the now third ranked team to advance if they win 2 of the next three matches they will play in on Wednesday (which they most likely will).
The team that will advance instead of us was basically gifted its ability to advance in what turned out to be horrible luck for us. The team that we dropped 3 matches to (CoolRunninZ) played Team 360 (we beat them 2-1) but CoolRunninZ only managed to produce 3 players for that scheduled match. CoolRunninZ was thus forced to play 3 versus their 4 for all three matches and they ended up losing 2 matches as a result due to the player shortage (its amazing that they won 1 match IMO). They would have taken them every match had it not been for that. We are certainly better than Team 360 and I have the recorded gameplay to prove it which I will post when I have the time.
It's unfortunate but I suppose this is how these tourneys go - there's good luck and back luck - unfortunately we were got the short end of it. We did mostly everything right besides one night where we mentally defeated ourselves early on when we couldn't adjust to their attack. We learned a lot and definitely grew as a team (in both maturity and size as we are currently expanding our player list). We have continued to scrimmage with CoolRunninZ and I truly think our teams are pretty well matched in terms of skill - they just worked better together than we did when we lost 3 to them.
MORE THOUGHTS:
(1) I love the gametype settings MLG decided on.
(2) Host is not such a great advantage in MLG tourney play. Good strategies and solid team play makes host a non-issue. We actually had games where we lost the match on our host and then won the two consecutive matches off host.
(3) I love friendly fire on - it's hard as hell to get used to though. Sniping is 10x more difficult with this feature on (not to mention the use of shotty and nades).
(4) I hate Clocktower - I don't know why, but I cannot get a hang of the play on this map.
(5) Team shooting is everything in this game - much like H2.
(6) MLG Tourney play is uber fast paced and enjoyable (with the exception of Fuel Depot).
(7) I hate having the Extreme Content off but I am getting used to it.
(8) Hitting AR every time is not as easy in these intense games. I rarely miss in ranked or player but I found myself missing a lot more in MLG. I got better with the more matches I played but your nerves and the frantic nature of the gameplay as you are calling people out and everything else definitely compromises your ability to hit it every time.
I will be posting 6 matches very soon (out of the 12 we played). I wasn't able to play one night where we went 2-1 and there is no way in hell that I will post us getting housed 0-3.
I will show two scheduled games where we went 2-1 matches on each. One team is better than the other but I have yet to see any MLG gameplay so hopefully people will enjoy regardless.
If there are people out there who would like to play with us with the hopes of joining our team/clan then message me OR if you want to scrimmage us please message me too.
There is no doubt in my mind that GoW would make an awesome MLG game. Don't bash it until you've tried it.

I recently improved my quality and by capturing with VDub but I am running into serious problems rendering those enormous files in Vegas now. I am pretty much stuck having to buy more RAM for my comp - I already have 1GB.
I'll get them up ASAP. |

| I cant wait to see these. MLG games are definitely the most heated and instense games you can watch, so i am sure all of them are very good gameplays. Z will most definitely host them. |

Edit: didn't read all the way to the end, good read, I hope it makes the circuit.
Edit: Wow sorry, didn't mean to double post. Thought I was editing my 1st post. fixed - Hitzel

To respond to this a little more fully:
I think GoW would be a very entertaining/fun game for circuit events. This game definitely offers a nice balance of team skill and individual skill - with team skill being the more important factor as it should. IMO this game will (most likely) play amazing on LAN. I love my Lancer but I can't imagine my Lancer without lag in every game - it's hard to team shoot online due to the way EPIC decided to approach bullet lag (I just learned about this yesterday but as far as bullet lag goes - EPIC was posed with two choices (1) minimize bullet lag but open up doors to rampant cheating or (2) leave the bullet lag but minimize the ability for people to cheat/mod ---- obviously EPIC chose #2). BUT in a LAN match there would be virtually no lag with pistol, lancer or shotty fire and would truly make the game MUCH more fierce. On my host I kill/suppress very well with my Lancer but off of my host it is much harder - I would love the ability to use my weapons on LAN. I got into H2 late in the game but now I understand how people can be amazing online but so-so on LAN as they are two entirely different games. ALL OF THAT BS was basically to point out that I think this game's potential is not yet realized until its ran on LAN - STOP AND POP WILL TRULY BE HOW THIS GAME IS PLAYED BECUASE PEEPS WON'T BE ABLE TO ROADIE RUN WITH SHOTTY AND AVOID LANCER FIRE (my biggest pet peeve with online play because it's cheap IMO).
I also think that this game is entertaining for crowds to enjoy. There are a lot of intense standoffs and frequent battles where either player could drop at any moment. The offensive / defensive struggles are epic (no pun intended). I love watching the intial rush and different appraoches - some uber fast matches, some drawn out nail biters. I think crowds would be on the edge of their seat as a 1v1 battle on Fuel Depot or Canals is taking place, which could decide the ultimate winner of a match - NOW THAT'S INTENSE.
While the Gametype variety may not be there yet (who knows what will come) - I think that Execution and Assassination and the variety of maps (Raven Down v. Mausoleum) add a nice dynamic to the game that makes teams have to be versatile just like in H2.
This game is addicting. H2 is addicting.
The online tourneys are filling up so quick and there is a solid fan following around the globe (GoW is setting crazy records in Japan).
With MLG expanding and growing like it is over just the past 1.5 years I would not be surprised in the least if they announced a GoW circuit. They will be needing to make the investment into the 360 consoles eventually with H3 so the logistics of this whole thing are not such a stretch either.
If they build it - I will come... ummmm, or I mean I will go to the circuit event.
