| For those of you who've played DoA 4 or any other online fighting game... ...I've got a question for you.
I heard good things about DoA's online play (iow, there's verry little to no lag or host advantage). How exactly did DoA's netcoding work? If you've played another fighting game with good online play, how did the netcoding work?
I'm asking this because I'm taking interest to what's known so far about Super Smash Bros Brawl's gameplay mechanics. I've talked to and read detailed stories from lots of people, from knowledgeable forum-goers to MLG Smash pros. I know alot about the combat system and how online matches are going to work, but virtually nothing about the actual netcode that will be used in Brawl. I want to know what to expect.
Anyone got any info for me? Thanks. |

| When I was playing DoA4 I experienced either normal gameplay or horrendous lag, like twitching everywhere until you were defeated, I think North American vs Asian connections were the ones that kept messing up but if they were both in North America it ran fine.

| I used to play DoA 4 online as well. Snix is right. Very bad lag. Im not sure if they ever fixed the problem. It was a fun game though...Sadly most of the reason i bought it was because there was that chick spartan in it! lol

| Was the netcode based off of host or client? How much peer-to-peer networking was involved? Was there input lag? If so, do you know if there were memory dumps or freezes whenever the online lag became greater than the input lag?
I really want to know the answers to these questions because I want to get a solid idea of how good fighting games handle online. From what you're saying, DoA4 sounds like it has a predictability system in effect (like Halo 2/3) that can't handle too much stress but works at anything under that breaking point.
The most important thing I want to know is if it had input lag, if you tell me anything. |

| I've experienced fighting games that didn't have lag before. Only think I can think about is just wait till Brawl is released. Btw, when is it released? I need to find another Wii. Giving my current one to my mom when she moves so my sister has something to play.

| Braw's release date is Feb 10th.
I'm well aware of networking programs like GGPO and kiaillera that allow emulators to offer nearly perfect online play in low pings that has intentionally delayed controls, but there are huge problems if there are high pings.
I was just wondering if that technology was ever used for games other than Street Fighter emulators. |

| As far as DoA goes, there is only one thing you must know. Titties.
Seriously though, if you get Brawl drop me a pm on how it is. I love the SSB series, and that game will more or less be my selling point for a Wii right now.
