I know what you mean, basically Megaman would be a Samus clone, and I don't want to see that (even though there have been no clones of her). Plus Megaman's a dead franchise anyway, he's too sold out. VJ, on the other hand, still hasn't been swindled by Capcom's greed and still has life to be a damn good character.

In a wierd way, yes. They can make him appear to be very seriously unserious. I don't think Megaman's looks nor personality would. It would just seem a little off to me, if that makes sense.

I don't know. I guess its just me. Maybe I have a psychosis against Megaman or something.

EDIT: Yeah, I see it the same way Tom. There are so many OTHER characters that Nintendo could get just as easily that are more appropriate (including VJ )

I don't think Megaman would be a Samus clone. Besides her B moves, Samus is pretty much defined by having a ton of priority and aerial freedom. Simply having the same B moves doesn't make a clone. Look at Falcon and Gannondorf.

Honestly, VJ doesn't have a shot at making it in. You get into Smash by being popular. For a third party character, you have to be VERY popular. VJ isn't popular enough.

It all depends on which "Megaman" they use. If they use the newer Megaman, then he'd have more aerial freedom rather than X, which is heavier, and the original, which is shorter and heavy as well.

Even though there were alot of subtle differences betweem CF and Gannondorf, they still felt like clones to me. Or at least twins. Different but the same. Anyways, a 3rd party character that even thinks about being a clone is a waste of a 3rd party character, imo. All the others have been unique, and I, personally, like it that way.


On another side note, has anyone noticed that it seems like the first tier of characters in competitive play is being expanded with every new character. Except for maybe Wario, it seems like every character that I've seen in play is going to be a contender among the upper echelon of characters.

Yeah Wario just seems to be a complete joke character, and I don't see how Ice Climbers got any better. I hated them, but I guess since its a team character, they'd practicially godly if you master them, much like Donovan from Darkstalkers.

And I'd say it's the Final Smashes that make them seem more top tier. Out of the current ones we've seen, Meta Knight seems to be the best character, hopefully he won't be overused. But if Ridley does become playable, and has a good setlist and Final Smash, I'd use him anyway.

Samus has aerial freedom because of her bombs... I don't think Megaman can fly like that.

Sorry, I didn't mean characters in general. I meant new characters. Think about it, you've got the guys who (IMO) are obviously top tier contenders- Metaknight, Pit, Ike, Snake, Sonic, and maybe ZS Samus. Then you've got the ones who, like the Ice Climbers, don't necessarily seem that great but probably pwn if you master them; namely- Pokemon Trainer, Olimar, and Lucas. That only leaves Dedede, Wario, and Diddy. Diddy will probably be decent, but I doubt he'll be tier 1. Wario, as you said, is a joke (it seems). And, personally, I don't really care that much about Dedede.

You see what I mean though? Sakurai has potentially doubled the size of the first tier.

Meta Knight is definitely top tier material with the moveset he has, Pit being similar to him would also be up there. Ike, if he's the same are Marth and Roy (from what I've seen he is) will be up there as well, and I'm not too certain about the last three.

Pkmn Trainer may be Tier 2-3, depending on how well people can use the three pokemon in a near undefeatable combo. Olimar to me seems to be a joke, but with the Pikmin having different abilities it's tough to decide, and if Lucas = Ness, then he'll be around the top somewhere.

And I don't give two shits about Dedede either, he just seems like a bad character idea. I mean you already have Meta Knight who's more of a badass than he is anyway.
