During a conference call today to announce its Q3 2008 (fiscal year) earnings, Electronic Arts announced that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames and Battlefield: Bad Company have both been delayed into the 2009 fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2008.
"We've made the decision to move Battlefield: Bad Company and Mercenaries 2 into fiscal 2009," said John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts. "Both titles are looking great, and we believe with additional polish, we will build a better consumer experience and thereby maximize our economics."
Mercenaries 2 (pictured) was initially expected to launch in 2007 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and PlayStation 2, but the title was pushed into early 2008 in September to further polish the experience. Online retailers such as GameStop.com recently started displaying an August release date for the game, though today's announcement did not confirm an intended release frame outside of the 2009 fiscal year. When we last saw Battlefield: Bad Company for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in August, a spring 2008 release was expected, but it is now clear that the title will not ship until April at the earliest.
