I didnt play ANY of the previous games. Will I lose out if I buy this? As in, is it smart to buy this game without knowing crap bout GTA?

oh yeah, each of these games was awesome, with them each having their own "story". its pretty much a must buy.

No each one has its own story so you wont miss out. Except in San Andreas you can see the character from GTA III

The previous era games all took place in the same "world" and had a bunch of cameos and cross-overs. Even back then though you didn't need to play any previous games to enjoy them it just added to the overall experience.

But with the change in Hardware Rockstar is once again starting over cannon wise and everything is new. There should be very few cross-overs if any.

My opinion is that even if you hadn't played the other games, you'd be missing out even more if you didn't buy the game.
