I have it aboue 6 inches of space all around mine, its horizontal aswell, the power cord is right up against the wall, my room has a vent in it so it does get hot in here so I leave the window opened a crack so it doesn't get that hot, try to give it a brake every 3-4 hours of play.

See this is what aggervates me. You have to becareful because M$ can't perfect thier product before selling it. SO you dont even get your full gameplay out of it because your worried your system is going to crash.

You are supposed to take 15 minutes break time ever hour anyway! It says it in every manual.

I don't think I've ever sat down and had a 6 hour+ gaming session to be honest :P

I have mine right next to my tv, like 8" away. I have had it on for about 8-9 hours at a time. Never frozen, never burned out,

you don't REALLY have to take a break every 3-4 hours so it doesn't overheat. im on christmas break now and the past 2 days i have had 8 hour and 7 hour sessions. i guess i turn it off when i eat, but thats only for like 15 minutes. i havent had any problems with my game overheating only it freezing when i look at peoples gamercards in pgr3.
