well im a battle mage and im wondering how i get my level up i wana do nocternal shrine :s

press B go to the 3 bars tab which is health,mana,fatigue go over to your major skills, see what they are and then do things that require those

well battle mages are swords and spells
but like i said look at your major skills because those are what you are. if you dont like your char remake it.

Well one way to tell if you are ready to level up is when your in the game playing. You can look down and see where your compass is and to the left it will have the little icon of what spell you have equiped. Well look to the right of the compass and you have a little icon that resembles an up arrow. Well if that icon is there just go to bed for any amount of time and you'll level up. Also usually when you level up it say's blah blah blah "you should rest on what you've learned".

I am a battle mage, and for me to level up the best way is to get stones from dungeons that recharge magicka and then repeat a low magika cost spell, for those skill you want leveld up example summon zombie for conjuration, and when your magika runs low activate a stone and do it over again....

y would you use such a cheap way to get your lvl up it takes the fun out of the game. Jus use your major skills wherever you go. I have all my major skills maxed out and yea it takes a shitload of time, but it is also very fun. Most of my skills went up when i got to the part in the main quest where i had the option to shut all the oblivion gates myself. Just use stuff that pertains to your majors(and dont do any cheap stuff cause it takes the fun away).

im still stumped.. so if i keep training with an axe or my dreada claymore i would get my level up?

it would get your lvl up if some of your major skills are blade and blunt. Ill try to explain it a lil easier. Lets say that one of your major skills is destruction, when you are doing a mission, looting a cave, etc before you go after the enemy you want to kill shoot a fire, ice, or lightning spell at it, that helps out you destruction. If blade or blunt is one of your major skills when you use a blade or blunt weaopn it is going to imrove for you and eventually you will increase your skill in it and then at some point lvl up. If that doesent help tell me what you major skills are and i will try to give you the best example that i can
