ok i have oblivion and i started it but my guy sucks hes an Argonian and i am going to make a new guy and i was going to make a Dark Elf but is there a better person to be? i want one with a good sword and good magic...can anyone help?

1)Make a custom class
2) Don't make crap like mechantile your major skills
3)Redguards are pretty good
4) Invest in sneek to you will need it alot in the game if you wish to persue the guild quest
5)Sign of the shadow is awsome

What do you want to specialize in?

I'd personally be a dark elf. Good battlemage.

Choose only one armor type. Either heavy or light. Wearing armor that you're not skilled in decreases your magic efficiency.

Choose either Blade or Blunt. Choosing both gives you either a useless major, or spreads your skills out unevenly.

You may also want to use block, espicially if you're playing on a higher difficulty setting.

Choose the magic you are going to use, and only that. Destruction and Willpower are good bets for a beginner such as yourself. They are both simple. Damage others and heal yourself. But most importantly, they both boost the same attribute; willpower. (and dark elves get a destruction boost, anyway)

You should also choose a type of magic you're going to use. If you don't understand what a certain type of magic is or what it does, your starting character shouldnt use it. Save that for your next chracter.

If you still want to use other types of magic, alchemy is a good bet if you understand how to make potions. It can boost your level if you raid farms and mass-produce potions, and you can sell everything for profit. This boosts your inteligence, so use it if you are going to use another type of magic that boosts inteligence.

I forget what the sign is, but one of them raises your wilpower and endurance. A good choice for a battlemage, IMO.
