| 2008 CES Microsoft Briefing- Xbox Announcements Taken from TeamXbox... Quote:
Today marks the last CES keynote for Bill Gates as Chairman of Microsoft Corp. During the keynote, Robbie Bach, President of the Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft, provided an update on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.
Bach announced that Microsoft has sold more than 17.7 million Xbox 360 consoles worldwide to date and that Xbox Live just passed the 10 million member mark, 6 months faster than Microsoft anticipated--which explains the Xbox Live performance issues that we have seen for the last two weeks. These figures put Xbox 360 on track to register the biggest year in video game history as U.S. consumers spent more on the Xbox 360 platform in 2007 than on any other gaming platform.
“With its continued momentum in games, accessories and digital entertainment via our leading online service Xbox LIVE, and record-setting games and accessory attach rates, evidence is everywhere that Xbox 360 is thriving,” Bach said.
Microsoft also announced that ABC and Disney will bring their TV shows to Xbox Live (Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives). When it comes to films, Sony's MGM will bring its extensive movie catalogue to Xbox Live, including classics such as Rocky, Terminator and Legally Blonde.
