| Microsoft Admits to faulty Hardware for Xbox360 Site: http://www.magamanlive.com/?p=41
Audio: http://media.putfile.com/Xbox-Custom...horter-version Quote:
OK as the title just read:
I have had my Xbox360 since launch. After 3 months I needed to have the system replaced and the system was replaced by Microsoft. Now the system is plagued by 3 rings of light. I call customer support and after being hung up I make sure to fire up the phone recorder; AUDIO with XBOX Support
Now the call is long but within the last five mins or so they supervisor walks me through a diagnostic test which he says is a hardware issue. Now inorder for me to use my XBOX360 I must ship it out and pay 100 dollars.
I cherish my systems and not a single one has been broken, my NES still works. Microsoft should be held responsible for these hardware issues and should not be charging gamers like myself extra money on fixing defective hardware.
I will not pay for somthing i did not break and everyone else should join this fight.
I will continue with updates including a shorter version of hte phone conversation so you don’t have to listen to the whole thing
**update 1** SO far this is getting some response on Digg thank you, now I got the end of the phone conversation edited down where the Rep admits “It is somthing specific with the hardware inside the console” Here is the link
Also I might have to move this to my blog since the godaddy.com site might max out.
**Update 2** I have now filed a complaint with the BBB, I have also tried to contact Microsoft reps. and will need to fax Robbie Bach the VP of the XBOX Divison in the morning.
**Update 3** Thank you for the support. I need to clear a few things up. First off I know the chain of command I spoke to two CSR’s before the CSR supervisor who told me the tests show “specific defective hardware” listen ot the shorter audio version. Two as far as dropping names and press, I am press I do internet radio I report on the industry weekly, I have the first amendment right, of freedom of speech and I will use my avenues to show people that Microsoft is really screwing over the consumer. As far as Larry Hyrb(major Nelson) I have emailed back and forth and talked with him, and I know he gets my emails and I right out told him in the email that this is not meant for him and that I would be very happy if he could foward it along to the correct people.
And I stand by my feelings that any product shouldn’t need to be replaced or repaired every 3-6 months, thats not right, and I wouldn’t be mounting this campaign if I was at fault but I treat my systems and other electronics very well and if this was my fault cuase I dropped it or did somthing to it then I would have no problem being a man and owning up to it.
Thanks again, and if this site crashes due to bandwidth which it might all this will be mirrored on my blog even though I never really use it.
**Update 4** Microsoft is now censoring my thread on the XBOX forums. I had a thread posted with this issue, with 4 pages of replys some peopel dissagreeing with me but many agreeing that Microsoft is wrong and should be replacing our broken systems.
**UPDATE 5** I just got back from faxing a letter to Robbie Bach VP of the XBOX division, Now I will wait for a response.
**UPDATE 6** Just want to clear a few things up let me cut and paste:
Federal and State Laws
The U.S. federal law allows recording of phone calls and other electronic communications with the consent of at least one party to the call. A majority of the states and territories have adopted wiretapping statutes based on the federal law, although most have also extended the law to cover in-person conversations. 38 states and the D.C. permit recording telephone conversations to which they are a party without informing the other parties that they are doing so.
12 states require, under most circumstances, the consent of all parties to a conversation. Those jurisdictions are California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington.
It is illegal under all jurisdictions to record calls in which one is not a party.
The federal Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2510 et seq., prohibits the willful interception of telephone communication by means of any electronic, mechanical, or other device without an applicable exemption. There are two principal exceptions:
Federal Exceptions
Consent: In the absence of more restrictive state law, it is permissible to intercept and record a telephone conversation if one or both of the parties to the call consents. Consent means authorization by only one participant in the call; single-party consent is provided for by specific statutory exemption under federal law. 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2511(2)(d).
While the U.S. federal law only requires one-party consent, many states have accepted different laws. In some states all parties must give their consent or at least be notified that the call is about to be recorded (with necessary opt-out option: if you don’t like them to record the call, you can ask them to stop recording). There also was a case law decision from many years ago (the 1950’s) that went to the Supreme Court and affirmed that the federal law does not supersede state authority/statutes unless the call or the tap crosses state lines – that is why each state went ahead and established their own guideline/statute.
There you all go, Also when you call 1-800-4-MYXBOX there is a recording tell you this phone call is being recorded which then means myself and the person on the other line knows this call is recorded
**UPDATE 7** Someone for XBOX support called me while I was at work I returned the call and are now waiting for a call back.
**UPDATE 8** XBOX CSR Rep called me back today in response to my complaint filed with the BBB, “We would like to comprpmise, but you need to compromise as well” I was asked to make an offer on what discount I would accept on the repair, I knidly answered “100% off” and then explained to her that it was not the service that myself and other consumers are upset over but rather the company policy. I then told her that I will wait for a response from Robbie Bach’s Office and for her to further my complaint up the ladder. She was nice and kinda agreed with our problems and also advised me to purchase a extended warrenty when this problem is resolved. I finished the call by once again explaining my feelings that this is a wide spread problem and the company needs to fix the problem. So now I wait and begin drafting a good petition for all to sign.
Oh and since I see the folks at the support center are reading this, I know there were two of you on the phone, you would think with all the money you could figure out away for more then one person to listen in then just picking up the other headset in the office. This way I wouldn’t hear you moving your hand around on the reciever.

| you make it sound like he admits faulty hardware in every 360..he does not..he says with his 360...
i've had mine for months now..and have never had a problem....
although i dont think he should be charged...
but the fact that he admits faulty hardware is blown way out of proportion...

| I agree completely, we pay/payed good money for a quality system, so why should we pay extra if THEY put faulty hardware into the system? Then shipped it to us? Sounds like a scam to me. Luckily I've had no problems with the 360 because I bought mine a couple of months ago, I will admit that I got a Red ring of light when I brought it over to a friends house, but I just restarted it and it was fine. So I have no idea what that was about but it happened one time.
This is complete bullshit. If microsoft wants us to be loyal to them, they have to loyal to us and not try to jip us of our money. |

i cant think of one company that doesnt have an end to a warranty!? Unless it says lifetime somewhere i didnt see...he bought his launch date..he got a new one..his warranty expired...his problem...the fact that something went wrong 6 months down the road is fishy to me....you dont know this guy..he might put his dick is in his disk tray...something going wrong with a 360 out of nowhere is odd...he said he hardly played it..what does he care
6 months though.....and nothing wrong with it

6 months though.....and nothing wrong with it | Exactly. He didn't play it much, so when he does play it, it finally broke down compared to the everyday gamer that it would've broken down in a few months. But no, his broke down in double that because he didn't play it much. So I believe that if you PAY for a good system (300-400 dollars) then why pay ANOTHER 100 bucks down the road for something that you had no control over? You had no idea that would happen, yet they want you to pay for their mistakes. Microsoft can't be lazy with these kinds of things, because it's bullshit.

Xbox Support Group gave me the same bullshit. Well its true times the charm is real.

| Well all I have to say is who cares, I don't have problems with mine and neither do most others. So that sucks that you got a fucked up xbox.

| Deffective is an understatement.
Microsoft really needs to stand behind their products. I has these Klipsch speakers that cost me over $500 bucks and have died because of deffective hardwrae in their subwoofer, I have sent them two times and they have mailed me new speakers every single time even though my warranty had expired.
Almost every friend that I have that owns a 360 has sent it in for repairs. That was such a turn off for me so I never got one, but my wife decided to suprise me this birthday and bouth me one. I just hope this fucking piece of shit doesn't die on me anytime soon.
I had to buy two Xbox's because the optical drive was always dying out on me. I bought my PS2 in 1998 and it's still working perfectly. Microsoft just makes shity products.

| Well i agree he shouldn't have to pay, but who is this guy it could be a Sony hoax ive had my 360 since december and have played well over 400 hrs on it and it still running like a champ but then again i put my 360 down in one spot when i opened it and havn't moved it since so maybe its just the way its put together i mean the entire system seems flimsy and dosn't seem to be very durable. When i read that i thoght hoax it could be a playstation fanboy trying to turn everybody off the xbox, this is the first tiem ive heard of people saying they had to pay to get it fixed. but u never know id be more worried if i saw more cases like this one but as of now i think its a hoax. Anyone can call a number and set up a fake phone conversation, so that dosn't really prove anything, and u can look up the VP of xbox divison or whatever they call it somewhere so its all a big ?. |
