1. Open up Vegas and drag your desired gameplay into a video track. Then clip the segment that you wish to render as your "montage clip". Like this:
2. Double click above the video track so that your clip is highlighted. Once you've done this you can move onto rendering or you can use some effects to help out the quality of your video. To use effects to help your video quality out right click on your clip and click "Video Event F/X". You will see this box.
3. Now there are a lot of effects here but I'm going to point out a few that can help out with your quality. There are three effects that are simple to help with quality issues. These three are "Brightness and Contrast", the "Saturation" effect, and lastly, the "Sharpen" effect. Simply double click on any effect that you wish to use
4. After you have added the effects that you want to use it's time to adjust the level of each one so that it best suits your needs.
-Use "Brightness and Contrast" if your video seems "dull" or "gray".
-Use "Saturation" if your color is dull in your video. Or it's hard to distinguish colors.
-Use "Sharpen" if your video seems blurry on edges or text.
5. "Brightness and Contrast" is what I use to help with the "grey" problem of my clips. Generally I don't mess with my brightness because I think that my video is plenty bright, but I usually do add a little bit of contrash to make colors more identifiable and to eliminate the grey ness of the clip. Usually just taking the contrast to ".15" is enough to help with the grey issue.
6. "Saturation" can be tricky at first. I mainly would suggest adjusting the "Amount" and "Spread" and not even bothering with the "Center". To bring out some extra color I usually will add some saturation and spread it out. Again, everyones quality is different and it's important to look at your clip and experiment.
7. "Sharpen" is probably one of the most under used and most valuable tools Vegas has to offer. If your video quality is good, just "fuzzy" or "blurry" in certain places add the "Sharpen" effect. If you're recording in already high quality I would suggest maybe using a lower amount like 2 or 3. If your quality is moderately-very blury then I would suggest a 5 or a 6.
There you go! You've successfuly altered the quality of your video with a few easy steps. Remember that if you find settings that you like and want to save them, just go to your effect box and at the top you'll see where is says "Untitled" just change that to something you'll remember and hit the little floppy disk symbol to save it.
