| I think the biggest problem with the horror genre nowadays is that most of the originality is gone. Most "scary"(I use this term loosely) movies are produced by big budget studios who would rather make a grotesque CGI monster and throw in a few screams then risk the cash on an original, creative script that might actually provide some fright.
Stephen King once wrote an essay about the nature of horror in his books (the concept applies to movies as well). He talks about how mystery around the object of fear creates suspense and a sense of horror. Basically, he says that a boogie man inside a closet will always be scarier than one outside of a closet because when we see the boogie man outside of the closet our subconscious minds always say "It could have been worse". Modern horror has strayed from that concept for the most part, IMO. Studios believe that the fear is derived from the monster/killer itself, rather than the air about the monster. For instance, consider the recently released, more recently deceased "Prom Night". From the very beginning of the movie the audience knows who the killer is and what his motives are, which might not have been bad if they'd taken the time to flesh out the character throughout the rest of the movie, but, oh yeah, they didn't, and it sucked. Most modern horror flicks are taking this cookie cutter approach as of late, and it annoys me. Anyways, /rant.

| Ya I completely agree with you wanted. I havent been "scared" by a movie in a long time, but this one looks hella creepy. Specially since it is based on true events. |

| Horror movies are win. I prefer creepy movies over scary ones though.
This movie looks interesting, but I agree... It doesn't really look any different than most scary movies, other than I found it odd that Liv Tyler is doing a scary movie. But hopefully it'll be awesome.

I thought the scariest movie in recent years was "The Mist" by Stephen King, and the scariest part of the movie was when the spiders starting crawling out of the dudes body.
I agree that you normally need some kid of mystery in a horror movie to be good, but some movies (and games) work really well when you can see what you are trying to get away from. Anyone here who played REsident Evil back in the day knows what I'm talking about... nemesis.

| I just got home from this movie...
I loved it. It isn't like most scary movies these days where they throw things in to make you jump, or straight gore. It was creepy as hell. People were in the theatres screaming and leaving crying. I dno how many of you will find it scary, I didn't really, but it was enjoyable. |

It didnt scare me at all, and even the jumpy parts where so predictable it wasnt even worth it. The story draggs on a lot i thought with the same stuff over and over again. After a while seeing them get chased just got old. And the ending made me hate the movie even more.
Overall I think they had a great great scary movie that the makers failed to capitalize on, and in the end kinda failed. |

| it was weak. people in my theater were laughing and some almost got kicked out by the manager/police. but it was pretty intense.. i just dont care for that kind of movie, id rather have a good story than a cheap scare
had no story was purely the 'jump scare' tactic just like the move THEM. even tho its scary that something like that happens/happened |
