Pau Gasol Traded to LA Lakers

Gasol, 27, is certain to help a Lakers team reeling from a series of recent injuries to inside players, including blossoming centre Andrew Bynum.

The Spaniard, who is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds in 39 games this season, can fill in at centre until Bynum returns in mid-March and then move to power forward.

"We're extremely pleased to be able to make this trade," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. "Pau is a proven player of all-star calibre in this league who can score and rebound and is still a young player.

"We feel this strengthens our team in the short term as well as the long term."

The Grizzlies will get the Lakers' first-round draft choices in 2008 and 2010, guard Aaron McKie, signed earlier Friday for salary cap purposes, and the rights to Gasol's brother Marc, a former second-round pick of Los Angeles.

The Lakers also receive the Grizzlies' second-round pick in 2010.

Amazing trade for the Lakers, but shitty for the Grizzlies. Kwame is struggling big time this year, but they do get an up-and-coming guard in Crittenton. He has the ability to shine in the NBA, and the Grizzlies may be where he can get noticed.

The Lakers starting 5 is amazing now, and there bench has been scoring big time as of late. With a starting line-up of Farmar/Fisher, Kobe, Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum, they will be a huge force to be reckoned with (even though they already are).

lets agree that all 3 r better then Hughes!! Boobie is fuckin sweet and he will get even better, but the cavs need a veteran PG 2 create 4 LeBron, Hughes and Gibson cant do that..but the nets will prolly want Gooden or Varejao for Kidd and same wit the Kings for Bibby..so who knows...we will prolly get no1 b/c Danny Ferry is an idiot who gives out outrageous contracts 2 shitty ppl like Hughes,Jones,Marshall,Snow
