Half the kids that beat me just jump kick the entire time and for some reason i cannot do anything to stop them lol.

If you're pretty sure that's how this ladder works, that might mean the dudes above you got their ranks with less effort because they got up there first and just haven't had many people pass them yet. You should also be able to keep your match total low by challenging the highest ranked players you can, that'll help you jump faster if you win.
