I have been working hard. I want to break top 20 before gears which is going to be tough but i think i can maybe pull it off. 
Some of the kids that are up there are insane though

I probly need alot more than that actually. Because i have lost a match and sometimes drop 200 spots on the leaderboards!!!! Its rough man

That ladder looks like BS. A guy next to you is only 36 and 1. Most of his matches were probably against noobs at low rank after under 40 games so far..
And a guy 2 slots above you has a worse record then you do.. Lame. But GL getting to the top. I hear you're beastly at MK =)

In a ladder system you move up half the spots toward your opponent.
For example:
If you are ranked 12 and your opponent is ranked 6, a victory would bring you to rank 9. Charlie can correct me if I'm wrong.
More advanced ladders can be created with some kind of formula to calculate gains and losses, but this is the typical setup.
If you are high ranked and don't play, people will leapfrog over you. I'm not sure how the top rank loses their spot other than a direct challenge from the 2nd rank.
